The art, dance, music and short film festival

2017 - Trans Allegoria

2015 - Antidote

2013 - Crisis & Paganism

First week of September 2017

Allegories are symbolic figures which identify ideas and give to the abstraction a face, an expression, a position, a costume which reveals the meaning. Victory has wings, Death is a skeleton with scythe, when Spring is surrounded by flowers. The Allegory can freeze the temporality of an idea, like the gold fleece, the holy grail, the “immortal" water, or the Spring of Youth.

The Greek mythology humanizes everything, the muse, the grace, the winds. The Gods give form and behavior to all the main powers of the universe. In the Greek national anthem Freedom, exhausted, poor but full of courage lives her life of a constant struggle. An empire holds a specter and democracy wears on her head laurel leaves, war wears black and red symboling ash and blood. But what happens when a symbolism goes beyond the extreme of its meaning.

The title of the Mykonos Biennale 2017 is Trans-Allegoria. It raises (and answers) the question of the capacity of Art to initiates, introduce and captivate. Art which transforms energy into creation and creation into life.
The saga of the Great Ideas, at the transcendental Island that changes everyone into something new, something that discovers only in place.

Treasure Hunt

Boxes with the label “Antidote” will be sent to 40 artists around the world. The artists returned the boxes with a piece of art inspired by the theme - Antidote. The boxes will be hidden on the sacred island of Delos. A treasure hunt will be organized, where visitors will scatter around the island to find the “treasures”. Our long term goal is to attain the first floating museum - maybe an old war ship- where the artworks of the Mykonos Biennale will be exhibited, the museum of Archipelago.

A Night of Philosophy

A Night of Philosophy is a nocturnal event, inviting philosophers and artists to create a unique encounter between Philosophy, Art and the general Public. It is a sort of championship between Art and Philosophy about the meaning of things. It is based on profusion, simultaneity and free access. As a site-specific staged event, A Night of Philosophy offers each time a new experience. After Paris, Berlin, London, New York, Helsinki, UNESCO's Paris headquarters, Brooklyn, Lima, A Night of Philosophy will be held for the first time in Mykonos. As the closing event of Mykonos Biennale 2017, A Night of Philosophy takes its inspiration from Plato and will take the unique form of a symposium on love: philosophers and artists will all gather around the same table and propose vivid and visionary, actual and untimely evocations of love.

A Night of Philosophy is a series of events created by Mériam Korichi since 2010.

Dance Performance

An international dance theatre will do the stomping for the grapes, a real pigeage, as ritual initiation in the Orphic Mysteries. Pigeage is the origin of the dance theater, the comedy, and the tragedy, with Arion as the creator of theatre. A special vintage will be bottled from this dance.
